night out essentials

For years my night out essentials would include everything that was in my daytime handbag–meaning, I carried way too much stuff with me. Sunglasses, pens, candy, crumpled up receipts, a notebook, and credit cards. You name it, I had it in there. These were things I didn’t need when I was out at dinner, or at a bar, or club for a few drinks. One day I saw a cute (but very small) studded clutch and decided to purchase it. From that day forward I made the decision to let go of the excess baggage so to speak, and only bring with me what IRead More →

fitness motivation tips

I often find myself lacking the motivation to hit the gym. Especially this time of the year when the days are shorter and colder. I’ve used the excuses I’m to tired, that I’m to busy, or I just simply don’t feel like going. Not long ago, if I didn’t feel like working out–I’d skip the gym session all together. I started getting in the habit of doing this and about a month ago I came to the realization that I needed to stop saying, “I’ll go tomorrow.” Fitness isn’t just about looking good, it’s also about being healthy. I started thinking about the different approachesRead More →

Tasty Vegan Recipes

I was introduced to eating vegan at one of my favorite restaurants, Cafe Gratitude a few years back. I will admit, I’m not a vegan (I love dairy too much), I consider myself to be a pescatarian because I eat sushi on occasion. I gave up eating meat when I found out that I was highly allergic to beef, and slightly allergic to chicken. After that I decided to stop eating meat all together; and to be honest I never really missed it. The biggest challenge for me was finding what to eat in its place. There are many benefits to cutting meat out ofRead More →

christmas time in new york city

There’s seriously nothing in this world like Christmas time in New York City. The bright lights, the window displays, the shops, the crisp cold air…it all contributes to the alluring appeal that Manhattan has to offer. Last year my boyfriend and I started the tradition of heading into the city a few days before my Birthday (December 23) and spending it, as well as Christmas Eve in New York. This is something I will look forward to year after year. Here’s what we did…  Thursday  Getting There We ended up getting a late start and left in the evening. My dad drove us from MassachusettsRead More →

The holidays in New York City

Being from the east coast, I can’t imagine not spending the holidays in New York City. Los Angeles is great around Christmas time and for those of us that grew up surrounded by snow, it’s really hard to adapt when it’s sunny and 65 degrees outside. Last year my boyfriend and I started the tradition of going into the city a few days before my birthday (December 23rd), and then meeting up with my family for Christmas Eve dinner. For those of you that haven’t been to New York in December, I highly recommend that you put it on your list of things to do.Read More →

rainbow sprinkle cake from scratch

For A Girl in LA’s one year anniversary, I wanted to do something special to commemorate the milestone. I decided to create a rainbow sprinkle cake from scratch using a recipe inspired from Delish.com. This was the first time I baked a cake from the ground up and I was quite surprised at how easy (and how much fun) it was.  I mean, who doesn’t love a vanilla / buttercream cake covered in sprinkles and glitter? Most the the ingredients I used were bought at my local grocery store. I did buy a few things on Amazon like the unicorn glitter confetti, the pink glitterRead More →

One Year Blogging Anniversary

I always considered myself an influencer in regards to discovering new clothing labels and trends, or choosing great beauty products to tell my friends about. They would come to me for advice and I’d give them my honest opinion. I decided that I could share my views with readers of A Girl in LA, and hopefully introduce them to something new and undiscovered. Coming up on the one year blogging anniversary, I thought I’d reflect on how the blog came to be what it is today. When I created A Girl in LA, I was working in a fashion PR showroom and I wanted toRead More →
